ODDA Magazine is a biannual, contemporary fashion and culture magazine and founded by current Creative Director and Editor in Chief David Martin in April 2012.

By speaking out for creatives, artists, philanthropists, gallerists, actors and actresses, models, and people who participate in and nourish culture from an active perspective, ODDA is a platform where self-expression, imagination and dreams are brought to the next level. By discovering new meanings to those feelings, the magazine is also strictly connected to everything that brings excitement and passion. Starting from its very first issue, ODDA was published in the form of a hard-copy magazine by ODDA Ltd., a private media group.

Its editorial line, from the beginning and through the years, portrays menswear and womenswear collections, trends as well as individual creative minds. Every themed issue reflects a statement which shapes all the contents comprised inside every volume. ODDA magazine keeps alive its fascination for strong personalities; people with character and, last but not least, its excitement for the new wave of designers, creatives and talents who are changing the cultural scenario worldwide.

Issue by issue, ODDA aims to connect the simple touch of Fashion with the innovation taking place on a daily basis and a new and striking approach to trends, messages and meanings the industry creates day by day.

The new concept of fashion and what people like to wear is and will always be a matter of tastes, that is why the magazine is fully involved in the fact of reaching out as many as possible in order to give Fashion a universal meaning.

ISSUE 21 F/W 21-22

The ODDA 21 Fall/Winter 2021 issue, “Backward and Forward” features three different covers that focus on ways we place ourselves in the past, our vision of the future, and the actions we take to still create and enjoy the moments we have through perseverance, commitment, and the ability to fulfill our dreams.

For this September issue, we decided to have just one personality for the cover, and for the first time we chose a man. It has been nine and a half years since we launched our first issue and during all of these years, we have featured outstanding women in single cover launches, including Sigourney Weaver in 2018 or Adwoa Aboah in 2019. For us, however, this was the right time to come full circle, just before our 10th anniversary; we felt it was an appropriate direction to take, especially with someone who hasn’t had any involvement with the fashion industry prior to this — the NBA player, Tyler Herro.

The Miami Heat point guard, Tyler Herro, was shot in Miami in August while preparing for the NBA pre-season. We portray Tyler through a genuine lens that focuses on his work ethic, being an inspiration for younger generations, and how he adds flair to his game through his interest in fashion. This is also Tyler’s first magazine cover.

This ODDA issue delves into the “Golden Dreams” of past and future; the memories we’ve held since our childhood accompanied by a strong sensation of “getting ready” as we subsequently grow older. We should also remember the FOMO most of us are experiencing while the majority of the world still remains “untouchable.” We have somehow returned to an age during which international travel was as difficult as it is today, living abroad was considered futuristic, and our way of planning was incredibly territorial. Since we launched the publication back in 2012, our goal was the exact opposite; breaking borders while providing ways for discovering fashion, art, and entrepreneurs driven by a global message.

ODDA 21 “Backward and Forward” draws the parallels between the past and future through a year that was, on one hand, driven by reboots: the comeback of disco; viral television shows; sexual freedom and queer liberation; using applications and tools that didn’t exist before, and the idolization of icons and pop culture figures of the past. While, on the other hand, we are living through dramatic climate and humanitarian crises while facing disasters that, we as humans, seem either ill-equipped to handle or have trouble finding solutions for. One of the few options we have left is to move forward while both learning from and understanding the past, amplifying the voices of our youth and generations to come. By supporting and assisting them in generating the necessary tools for containing the very real problems we are faced with, we can move forward.

In this issue we have the privilege to spend a day with Dr. Amanda Parkes, the name behind the sustainable brand PANGAIA, discussing how she has helped bring focus to the harmful environmental problems stitched into our clothes while offering a spectrum of solutions through research into plant biodiversity and agricultural waste. We sit down with Marcellus Neel, the Creative Director at Amazon Fashion, for an exclusive interview on his background and what makes him one of the most influential creative directors working in the industry today, and speak with Mapi Moran at Goldenvoice, the creative marketing force behind festivals such as Day N Vegas held in November 2021, and hopefully, Coachella Festival in 2022. Alexa Chung opens up her studio and workspace for us in London to talk about her namesake brand, ALEXACHUNG, and her journey from a global style icon to an entrepreneur, while the fashion critic and journalist Alexander Fury and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills icon, Kyle Richards, have a candid conversation about her background as a child star, the reality of filming RHOBH, and fashion. We also visit the contemporary artist, Tom Sachs, in his studio in New York City, and touch on everything from art, space programs, and the state of humanity; we have the opportunity to learn more about Vestiaire Collective through its Co-Founder and Fashion Director, Sophie Hersan; and are given the opportunity to see the world through the images taken of Mick Jagger, Patti Smith, and Peter Berlin by the iconic photographer, Michael Zagaris.

We discover the recipe that has kept Emporio Armani relevant and ensured its longevity over the past 40 years, and how the house, to this day, defines the way the youth dress while retaining its ageless nature and sartorial elegance. We also explore the ideas of the future of fashion through the eyes of five Central Saint Martins graduates and offer the unique chance to win Balenciaga LED sunglasses through a sticker hidden on one of the pages of this issue.

“Backward and Forward” is about learning from our past, understanding our past, and moving forward with the choices that can make a better future. Considering the light at the end of a tunnel, this provides us a chance to start anew and do things right — hopefully not forgetting what we’ve learned so far.
